From the beaches of Guam to the White House, from the CIA to the Peace Corps, from beauty pageants to the UN – The Insular Empire follows four indigenous island leaders, to discover what it means to belong to America’s ‘insular empire’ in the Pacific. The Insular Empire is a one-hour PBS documentary about America’s colonies in the western Pacific. I did a promotional campaign on the documentary for the Evergreen Asian Pacific Islander Coalition which included a poster design and a Motion Video advert that was used on social media platforms Youtube and Facebook. My concept was all driven by the story. The coalition wanted the artwork to bring out the bright colors of the Mariana Islands, the colonial and military presence of the United States and the resources and privilages that are denied to the people of Guam.
